Catalonia is ready to engage in dialogue with Spain “without preconditions”, said the leader of the region Carles Pujdeme in an interview with CNN.
He noted that advocates of a mediator to resolve the crisis.
The Prime Minister of Spain has put forward two conditions and gave Podemno five days that he decided – he proclaimed the independence of Catalonia or not. Only after that Madrid is ready to start negotiations with the government of the region.
On the question of why Pujdeme not declared independence from on October 10, he replied: “firstly because of a sense of responsibility. I don’t want to declare independence – I wish she was.”
He noted that he feels compelled to open the window to dialogue in accordance with international requirements.
Pujdeme rejected suggestions that he could be arrested.
On 10 October the head of Catalonia Carles Pujdeme and several members of the government and Parliament of Catalonia signed the “Declaration by the representatives of Catalonia”, which proclaimed the independence of Catalonia. But the document is symbolic, as the Parliament did not vote for him. Pujdeme asked the Parliament to postpone a Declaration of independence for a few weeks.
