The Prime Minister of Spain, Mariano Rajoy, the day before the expiration of the established deadline to the head of the government of Catalonia Carles Pokdemon urged leaders in the region to waive the requirement of independence. About this Rajoy said, speaking in the Spanish Parliament, the AP reports.

Rajoy called Pokdemon “act wisely” and to heed the interests of all Spaniards and Catalans.

Addressing the party members Pokdemon in the Spanish Parliament, the Spanish Prime Minister asked them to try to convince the Catalan leader is “not to create any problems.”

About 50 Spanish and Catalan MPs have raised in Parliament posters demanding the release of two leaders of the movement for the independence of Catalonia, calling them political prisoners.

On 16 October the Spanish government has stated that it is not satisfied with the response Pokdemon on the question of whether the Declaration of independence, and puts forward another ultimatum – the leader of Catalonia have until October 19 to give a clear answer to this question.
