The Romanian foreign Ministry expressed concern about the adopted by the Verkhovna Rada of September 5 of the education act, in particular article 7 of the law on education in languages of national minorities. This is stated in the statement published on the website of the Ministry of foreign Affairs of Romania.

The Ministry reminded that, in accordance with the provisions of the framework Convention for the protection of national minorities, States undertake to recognise the right of any person belonging to a national minority to study in their native language.

The theme of language training in Ukraine will be included in the agenda of the Secretary of state of Romania Victor Mikula, who next week will visit Kiev to discuss the Romanian minority in Ukraine, said the foreign Ministry.

“We expect that the rights of persons belonging to the Romanian minority in Ukraine will be preserved, and we stress the constant concern of the Romanian authorities on this issue”, – said in a statement.

September 5, the Parliament approved the reform of education. On the language issue, the deputies agreed that the representatives of national minorities can receive education in their native language along with the state in preschools and in elementary school.
