The international weightlifting Federation (IWF) has decided to suspend a full national team of Russia in weightlifting from the Olympic games in 2016. This is stated in the statement published on the website of the Federation.

The main reason for the suspension of Russian athletes from the Games in Rio IWF called doping. “The reputation of weightlifting as a sport many times and on many levels deeply affected by the actions of the Russian athletes, so the appropriate punishment was applied in order to maintain the status of the sport”, – quotes the statement of the IWF service Bi-bi-si.

On 18 July, the World anti-doping Agency (WADA) on 18 July, presented a report, which talks about systematic doping in Russian sports. WADA recommended to suspend the Russian team from participation in all international competitions, including Olymipad in Rio de Janeiro.

Sunday, July 24, the international Olympic Committee has allowed Russian athletes to the Olympic games in Rio, provided that the agreement will give the international federations of their sports, and if they meet a number of conditions on “clean” from doping.

It is expected that the final list of Russian athletes who will go to the Olympics, will be known on July 30. Games in 2016 will start on 5 August.
