Former French President Nicolas Sarkozy in his book, All for the sake of France, which should appear on sale on Wednesday, announced its intention to participate in the primaries of the party, the Republicans, the results of which will determine the presidential candidate of the party. It is reported by RFI.
“I decided to be a candidate in the presidential election in 2017. France demands a full commitment,” writes Sarkozy. The cover of the book, the former President published on Monday in his Twitter, calling it a “starting point”.
The ex-President also said that Sarkozy, starting Monday, stepping down as head of the party Republicans. In this post it should replace Laurent Woke, head of the Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes.
About Sarkozy’s intention to participate in primaries, it became known a few months ago. Its belated official announcement, he explained “duty” of the head of the main opposition party.
Primaries – the first for the French right – will be held from 20 to 27 November. Competition Sarkozy will be about a dozen party members, including the mayor of Bordeaux Alain Juppe, who is the favorite, according to opinion polls.
In June at an economic forum in St. Petersburg, Sarkozy called for the removal of Western sanctions against Russia and not to accept Ukraine into NATO.
