The Minister of defence of Russia Sergey Shoigu met in the Syrian capital Damascus with the dictator of that country Bashar al-Assad. About it reports a press-service of the Ministry of defense.
The government of the Russian Federation said that Shoigu and Assad discussed military cooperation between Moscow and Damascus, as well as “joint efforts of countries in the fight against Islamic state terrorists in Syria.”
According to the press service of the Assad regime, the topic of the meeting was plans for the “return of control of government forces over the city of Deir ez-Zor” in the East, and “strengthen efforts to combat terrorism throughout Syria until its complete destruction”.
6 September 2017 the UN Commission to investigate war crimes in Syria published the findings, according to which responsibility for the April tragedy carries the Assad regime.
This statement of the UN Commission was not the first: in August, the Commission said that it collected enough evidence to charge Assad with war crimes.
Assad himself rejects UN allegations.
