A division of Sony Interactive Entertainment has reported that recently managed to sell the first million of virtual reality helmets PlayStation VR and get close to around 60 million consoles sold PlayStation 4. It is reported by the ITC.
According to Sony, the owners of the helmets purchased 5.25 million VR games and the average game session in the virtual reality is about 25 minutes.
Analysts suggest that by 2017, Sony will sell about 2.6 million of virtual reality helmets that will make the PlayStation VR the most popular device in this segment.
The main reasons for the market success of Sony’s PlayStation VR is a low cost ($399 and €399 in the markets of USA and Europe, respectively, which is 1.5 times cheaper than its competitors Oculus and twice as accessible HTC), no need to buy a powerful gaming PC (the helmet works in conjunction with PlayStation 4) and a solid lineup of compatible games.
