In Brussels was made by the Ministers of defense and foreign Affairs of Spain, which reported the intervention groups from Russia in a referendum on the independence of Catalonia with the aim to destabilize the situation in the country. This was reported by Deutsche Welle.
The Ministers stressed that a proof that public and private groups on the territory of Russia and Venezuela in the framework of a large-scale campaign used Twitter, Facebook and other social networks and websites to promote separatist ideas and to influence public opinion on the eve of the plebiscite, which was organized October 1, the Catalan authorities.
In particular, the foreign Minister of Spain Alfonso Dastis indicated that Madrid found in social networks fake profiles, half of which were served from Russia and 30% from Venezuela. According to him, these accounts were created to disseminate information, inflating the benefits of the separation of Catalonia from Spain. The Minister of foreign Affairs said that he raised this issue in the dialogue with the Kremlin.
The head of the Spanish defense Minister Maria Dolores de Cospedal stressed that the group in question, trying to achieve instability in Europe, and that the duty of the Spaniards to give publicity to this information.
Present at the meeting in Brussels NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, pointed out that, according to various reports, Russia has made attempts to interfere in the internal political processes in several countries. The Alliance accuses Moscow in the application of strategies of information warfare and disinformation to divide the West and to break its unity in the question of economic sanctions against the Kremlin.
Earlier, the leaders of the secessionist movement of Catalonia denied the influence of the Russian side on the outcome of the vote. Moscow also did not recognize any involvement in the intervention in the democratic processes in Spain.
