NATO continues to adhere to the policy of open doors and ready to accept new members. This was said by the Secretary General of the Alliance Jens Stoltenberg, reports UKRINFORM.
For accession to NATO, a country must meet the necessary standards, he said.
On the question of possible membership of Ukraine, Stoltenberg said that NATO’s doors are open.
“Georgia and Ukraine are now concentrated on reforms: modernization of its defence institutions, combating corruption, strengthening democracy. NATO and the allies help with the implementation of these reforms”, – noted the Secretary General.
According to Stoltenberg, every country has the right to choose their own path and only 29 members of the Alliance decide to invite a new member or not.
Earlier, the representative of Ukraine Vadim pristayko said that NATO is dissatisfied with the pace of implementation of Ukraine’s Annual national programme, which defines the list and the time of implementation of reforms for Ukraine’s rapprochement with the Alliance.
