The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has simplified the rules for the installation of electricity meters allowed consumers to choose and purchase the meters, abolishing, thus, the monopoly of the power companies for the installation of meters, and also set clear deadlines for the parameterization of meters. The decision was taken at a government meeting, UNIAN reports.

As the head of the Natskomisii, carrying out state regulation in spheres of power and utilities (NKREKU), Dmitry Vovk, a government resolution was designed for a long time and was met with great resistance from the energy companies. However, this decision will allow not only to abolish the monopoly of energy suppliers, but also to provide consumers with significant savings.

“It is proposed to amend the rules of use of electricity for the population and give consumers the opportunity to save. The essence of the changes: we need to abolish the monopoly of the power companies in terms of counters and simplify their parameterization. The domestic consumer can now buy himself a differential counter, whereas previously you could only do the power companies and the energy supplier should take given the count and conduct the procedure for its parameterization. And now also set a time limit parameterization – 3 days for the city and 5 days for the village,” – said Vovk.
