The EU supported the idea of a peacekeeping mission in the Donbass, which was reflected in the joint final Declaration of the summit of the Eastern partnership, adopted on Friday, November 24. About it the President Petro Poroshenko said in comments to journalists following the summit in Brussels.

“We managed to solve another political thing – the Union UN on the peacekeeping mission in the Donbas… Today we were able to include this position in the final resolution of the summit,” he said.

In paragraph 6 of the Declaration of the EAP summit, published on the website of the European Council, noted that the summit participants “welcomed the efforts of the EU and increase the EU’s role in conflict resolution and confidence-building in the framework or in support of existing agreed formats and processes of negotiations, including through a presence on the ground, where appropriate”.

“The summit continues to be deeply concerned about the ongoing violations of international law in many parts of the region. The summit participants are calling for renewed efforts to promote a peaceful settlement of the unresolved conflicts in the region on the basis of principles and norms of international law”, – stated in the text of the document.

As noted in the Declaration, conflict resolution, building trust and good neighborly relations are “essential to economic and social development and cooperation.”

20 November 2017 by the permanent representative of Ukraine to the United Nations Volodymyr Yelchenko said that the US and Russia fail to agree on the deployment of peacekeepers in the Donbass.
