The EU does not recognize any “elections of the Governor” in the Russian-occupied Sevastopol or the “Governor”, which will be subsequently appointed by the occupiers. This follows from the comment of the representative of the European external action service Maya Kosyanchich own UNIAN correspondent in Brussels.
“The European Union remains committed to its policy of non-recognition, which includes restrictive measures. European Union does not recognize the Russian Federation on the Crimean Peninsula, elections, and elected local or national representatives, ” she said.
According to the Agency, the so-called elections for the position of “Governor of Sevastopol” will be held on Sunday, September 10.
Russia has occupied the Autonomous Republic of Crimea in 2014 year. The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine officially declared on 20 February 2014 beginning of the temporary occupation of Crimea and Sevastopol by Russia. Key international organizations, including the UN General Assembly has condemned Russia’s actions and called the annexation and occupation of Crimea illegal. Against Russia were imposed economic sanctions. For the implementation by Moscow of the so-called elections with the participation of the Crimea in 2016-m to year the Parliament of Ukraine recognized the Russian state Duma is illegitimate.
