The European Union urged the Russian authorities to immediately release all the detained participants of the anti-corruption protests that took place on 26 March 2017. This is stated in the statement on the website of the EU representative offices in Russia.

The EU said that the police prevented the implementation of the fundamental freedoms enshrined in the Constitution – the freedom of speech and peaceful Assembly.

“We urge the Russian authorities to fully respect their international obligations, including the Council of Europe and the OSCE, to uphold these rights and to immediately release peaceful demonstrators who were detained,” – said in a statement.

March 27, 2017, the United States condemned the detention of hundreds of protesters in Russia, calling it an insult to democratic values.
