Eight member States of the European Union calling for greater cooperation between the US and the EU to promote reforms in Ukraine. About it reports Radio Freedom.
This plan appeared on the background of distribution in Europe, concern that the administration of new US President Donald trump will strengthen cooperation with Russia to reduce support for Ukraine and will weaken the influence of the EU.
The document, which will be discussed by the Ministers at the meeting of the EU Council on foreign Affairs February 6, initiated by Denmark, Sweden, Poland, UK, Finland, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania.
“Ukraine has the potential to become an example for the region”, but it will require “long-term political commitments and decisions, and international support,” the document says.
In addition, the authors argue that “the EU and the U.S. have a shared interest in supporting Ukrainian reforms”.
In particular, we are talking about what the EU and US should explore avenues of cooperation in reforming the Ukrainian authorities to “improve the compliance, effectiveness and predictability in the interests of trade and private sector development”.
In a report published in December last year, the European Commission recognized that Ukraine is implementing an intensive and unprecedented reforms in the economic and political systems.
