The ad hoc working group of the European Union, which is engaged in countering Russian disinformation and propaganda, will receive funding in the amount of 1.1 million euros from the EU budget. About it reports Russian service Bi-bi-si.
“The budget involves the allocation of funds annually for three years starting in 2018”, – stated in the message.
It is noted that the operational working group on strategic issues East StratCom Task Force was created by the European Union in 2015 to counter Russian propaganda. Up to this point the group was funded from the existing budget, which is designed for strategic communications in the EU.
At the moment East StratCom Task Force prepares weekly reviews of fake news from the Russian side. Working on that 400 experts, journalists, officials, NGOs and analytical centers in more than 30 countries. Directly to the East StratCom employs 14 permanent employees from different countries of Europe.
14 November, the Russian propaganda channel RT America was registered in USA as a foreign agent. Chief editor of the channel Margarita Simonyan called this status “stigma”. The Russian government, in turn, said about the attack on freedom of speech and develop a response, which may be restricted access in Russia to the American media.
