The European Commission took the initiative, which guarantees maternity leave for fathers of children. This is stated in the official press release of the European Commission.

In the case of adoption of the initiative at the legislative level, the father will be able to obtain the right to maternity leave for 10 working days after the child’s birth.

It is also possible to obtain a four-month leave to care for a child.

Today this applies only to children up to eight years.

“The proposed measures aim, in particular, to empower men in terms of parenthood. This will benefit children and help to increase the participation of women in the labour market, thus reducing the difference between men and women in employment, which in 2015 still stood at 11.6% and increased to 30%, when families have small children under the age of six years”, – stated in the message.
