The Ministry of foreign Affairs of Germany has proposed to weaken or remove the sanctions of the EU against Russia before the occupying state will fulfill the Minsk agreement. About this in his speech at the forum of the Social democratic party of Germany, said the head of the German foreign Minister, Sigmar Gabriel, says a local resource Tagesspiegel.
Since the execution progress of the Minsk agreements “will still take a lot of time,” and Russian President Vladimir Putin proposed a draft resolution of the UN peacekeepers on the demarcation line in the Donbas, the sanctions don’t necessarily have to align with the full implementation of the peace agreement, the diplomat believes.
“It makes no sense to expect that you (the sides of the conflict – ed.) do this (follow the Minsk agreements – ed.), so we remove the sanctions. Let’s at least get a ceasefire and withdrawal of heavy weapons, and then as a reward for that we will lift the sanctions and help in rebuilding of Donbass”, – he said.
Earlier, German Chancellor Angela Merkel reiterated for the umpteenth time that without the observance of the Minsk sanctions from Russia to the EU will not be removed. A year ago she declared that sees no reason for lifting sanctions, as Moscow has not fulfilled the obligations within the Minsk process, and last December reiterated this position.
