The interior Ministry urged the parties to refrain from using the banned Communist symbols in the first place – St. George ribbons. This was stated by Advisor to the Minister of internal Affairs Zorian Shkiryak at a briefing.

Shkiryak noted that this applies to the entire period of holidays and including may 8 and 9.

“With these ribbons and now Russian tanks and Russian boots trample Ukrainian soil. Today it is a sign of Russian terrorism. Please understand this and do not use these tapes,” – said Shkiryak.

In April 2015 the Verkhovna Rada has banned the Communist and Nazi symbols.

In accordance with the law, symbols of the Communist totalitarian regime includes any image of the state flags, emblems and other symbols of the USSR, the Ukrainian SSR and other republics within the USSR, national anthem USSR, USSR, other Soviet republics, or their fragments; attributes, which uses a combination of a hammer and sickle, sickle, hammer and five-pointed star, the plow, the hammer and five-pointed star.
