The mayor of Barcelona Hell Cola warned the government of Catalonia that the referendum results of October 1, 2017 not eligible for the Declaration of independence. It is reported by the newspaper El Pais.
The mayor also called on the Prime Minister of Spain, Mariano Rajoy to abandon the application of article 155 of the Constitution on the suspension of autonomy.
“The results of the 1 October can be the reason for the Declaration of independence and talking about the need to build dialogue and international mediation,” said Cola, adding the importance “to build bridges”.
2 October 2017, the government of Catalonia has published the preliminary results of the referendum on independence for the region after the processing of 99% ballots: “for” independence from Spain voted 90,09% of the citizens of the Autonomous community, “against” – 7,87%.
The leader of Catalonia Carles Putteman said that the region will declare independence in the coming days.
