The Ministry of economic development and trade has published the draft resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers, which establishes new minimum wholesale selling and retail prices for some alcoholic beverages. About it reports a press-service of the Ministry reports.
The Ministry stressed that the size of the effective minimum price on alcohol was introduced in November 2016, at the same time, in 2017 increased rates of excise tax for most alcoholic beverages.
“The Ministry has received numerous appeals of market participants, which noted that current minimum prices do not cover their operating costs. As a result, according to associations of producers of alcoholic products, weak competition from legitimate manufacturers and increasing share of unfair,” – explains his position in the Ministry.
In the end, the Ministry of economic development proposes to increase the minimum price of alcohol with the aim of protecting consumers from counterfeit and surrogate products and reduce the share of shadow economy.
“In particular, retail prices for vodka and alcoholic beverages to increase by 7.64-11,3%; whiskey, rum and gin – 3,5-4,6%; cognac (brandy) – 3,4-6,1%; wine with added alcohol, sparkling and vermouth – on 1,7-1,8%”.

Recall, 3 December 2016 entered into force the decree of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine №828, under which was increasing the minimum wholesale release and retail prices on separate types of alcoholic beverages. The minimum retail price for a bottle of vodka with a volume of 0.5 liter with alcohol content of 40% was increased from 54.9 69,78 UAH to UAH (increase amounted to 27.1%).
