The national team of Ukraine on karate not go to the youth European championship 2018 to be held in Sochi from 2 to 4 February. This was stated by the President of the Ukrainian karate Federation Sergey Levchuk, reports Tribuna.
“It was a difficult and unpleasant decision. We are talking about the lost year of hard work by our young athletes and their coaches, and about the lost medal hopes and plans. But there are things more important than sports achievements. In terms of actual war between Ukraine and Russia to go to the country-aggressor in the competition for us is neither possible nor desirable,” said Levchuk.
This year at the youth European championship in Sofia the national team of Ukraine got six awards – two gold, one silver and three bronze.
In October at the youth world Championships in Tenerife, the youth team of Ukraine on karate won one silver and two bronze medals.
