The Prosecutor’s office of ARC brought criminal proceedings on the fact of elections to the state Duma of the Russian Federation in Russian-occupied Crimea. Reports a press about it-service of Prosecutor’s office.
Elections in Crimea, shows the attempt to legitimize the Autonomous Republic of Crimea by including the illegally elected deputies from the specified region in the Russian Parliament and are in fact a continuation of the action for the infringement of territorial integrity and inviolability of Ukraine, aimed at changing the borders of its territory”, said the Prosecutor’s office.
It is reported that on the specified fact the Prosecutor’s office of Crimea initiated criminal proceedings under part 2 article 110 (Infringement of territorial integrity and inviolability of Ukraine) of the criminal code. The sanction of specified article provides punishment in the form of imprisonment from 5 to 10 years.
In Prosecutor’s office reminded that a number of countries and international organizations have expressed their position on the recognition results of these elections in the Crimea. “On the recognition results in one form or another, said PACE, Ukraine, USA, Estonia, Lithuania, Romania, Sweden, Denmark, Canada”, – stated in Department.
On 18 September, Russia held so-called elections to the state Duma of the Russian Federation. The Russian authorities held them on the territory of the annexed Crimea and Sevastopol. For this reason, elections are not legitimate. European Union, USA, Canada and Poland did not recognize the elections of the state Duma on the territory of annexed Crimea. Poland has questioned the legitimacy of the state Duma as a whole.
Russia has occupied the Autonomous Republic of Crimea in 2014. The Verkhovna Rada has officially announced on 20 February 2014 beginning of the temporary occupation of Crimea and Sevastopol by Russia. Key international organizations, including the UN General Assembly has condemned Russia’s actions and called the annexation and occupation of Crimea illegal. Against Russia were imposed economic sanctions.
