UN Secretary-General antónio Guterres urged to abandon the escalation of tensions around the situation on the Korean Peninsula. He expressed readiness to mediate a peaceful settlement of the situation, reports the UN news Center.
The UN chief called on North Korean authorities not to endanger the lives of millions of people, many of whom already suffer from hunger and devastation.
Guterres believes that the parties should engage in dialogue and negotiation is the only possible solution. The UN chief warned that “the rhetoric of confrontation can lead to unforeseen consequences.”
“The solution must be political. The potential consequences of military action would be devastating,” said Guterres.
