USA is concerned about the closing of one of the leaders of the Crimean Tatar people Ilmi Umerov and urge the Russian government to release him immediately. This is stated in the statement of U.S. state Department spokesman, John Kirby, posted on Twitter.
“We are extremely concerned about the detention of Crimean Tatar leader Ilmi Umerov. His condition is now critical. He continues to be in forced psychiatric confinement. This tactic is the contents of dissidents in psychiatric wards is alarming. We join the international community and urge the Russian government to release him immediately,” said Kirby.
Earlier, the OSCE called for the release of Ilmi Umerov.
