In the U.S. Congress issued a statement in which they demand from the Russian authorities to release Ukrainian Roman Sushchenko, and to stop harassing other journalists. The statement was signed by Democrats Marcy Kaptur, sander Levin and Republican Andy Harris and Brian Fitzpatrick, it is published on the website Kaptur.

“We remain concerned by the harassment and detention by Russian authorities of journalists who had not committed a crime, except that aspired to the truth… the Wrongful treatment of journalists, such as the Roman Sushchenko is part of a larger trend of politically motivated persecution and violation of basic human rights by the Russian authorities. We join the international community in calling for their early release,” the document says.

The Democrats like to remind you that, according to the Committee to protect journalists, nine journalists over the last 10 years were killed in Russia.
