USA first provided the evidence of Iranian involvement in supplying weapons used by Houthi rebels in Yemen. This was announced by the U.S. permanent representative to the UN, Nikki Haley, reports Reuters.
The report said that Saudi Arabia has supported the position of Washington, while Tehran denies the charges and says that they were fabricated.
Haley said that the United States has concrete evidence “of illegal distribution of Iranian weapons collected right after the military attacks on our partners in the region.” Also, she said Washington had to go to the declassification of the military equipment, discovered on the field of battle, in order to “not to allow the Iranian regime to continue its illegal actions”.
US Ambassador to the UN showed in Washington items made in Iran of ballistic missiles, short-range, which was released in early November at the Riyadh rebels from Yemen. This, she said, is a violation of UN security Council resolutions.
“It (the missile – ed.) was transferred to the rebels, the Houthis in Yemen. From there it was launched at the civil airport and could potentially kill hundreds of innocent civilians in Saudi Arabia,” she added.
“Saudi Arabia welcomes the report of the United Nations and the U.S. position on the hostile interference of Iran and the support of Tehran’s terrorist armed groups of the Houthis, threatening the security and stability in the Kingdom and the region”, – reads the statement of the foreign Ministry of the Kingdom.
