The U.S. is ready to financially support the UN peacekeeping mission in Ukraine. This was stated by Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine Ivanna klympush-Tsintsadze on the results of meetings held in Washington, UKRINFORM reports.
Vice Prime Minister noted that the US administration now declares its intention to significantly reduce contributions to the UN, including for peacekeeping operations. But official Washington is ready to make Ukraine an exception.
“I think that we received a clear assurance from the US regarding the fact that the United States is prepared to make an exception to his rule that they have recently introduced regarding the refusal to support any peacekeeping mission by the UN and their payment,” said klympush-Tsintsadze.
She expressed the belief that if there is a joint decision in the UN security Council on the introduction of peacekeepers in Donbass, the us “would be willing to support it financially”.
Earlier, Russia’s permanent representative to the UN, Vasily Nebenzia said that Russia sent the Chairman of the UN security Council the tekeda alemu and the Secretary General of the organization Antonio Guterres the draft resolution on the deployment of peacekeepers on the contact line in the Donbass.
The state Department said that the peacekeepers in the East of Ukraine should be not only on the line of collision, and on the whole territory of Donbass.
According to the Ambassador of Ukraine to the United Nations Volodymyr Yelchenko, the Russian draft resolution “totally unrealistic things” in which “there is no peacekeeping”. According to him, Russia has offered to host the mission only on the line of contact, as well as to negotiate on this issue with representatives of the terrorists.
Foreign Ministry said that Ukraine will continue to promote the initiative on the deployment of UN peacekeepers in the Donbass, but not on the terms of the Russian Federation.
