Ukraine and the international community do not recognize the elections to the state Duma if the voting will take place on the territory of Russia-occupied Crimea. It declares the Ministry of foreign Affairs of Ukraine, the press service of the Ministry.
In connection with the approval of the head of Mission of CIS observers in the elections to the state Duma, which should take place on 18 September 2016, the Ministry of foreign Affairs of Ukraine sent to the CIS Executive Committee note official position regarding Russia’s intentions to spread their holding in the temporarily occupied territory of Crimea and Sevastopol.
In Ukraine believe that such actions of the occupying state’s demonstrated disregard of state sovereignty of Ukraine, norms and principles of international law.
“In Ukraine, noted that the results of these elections will be void and those which will not create any legal consequences, will not be recognized neither Ukraine nor the international community that would cast doubt on their legitimacy as a whole”, – stated in the message.
The foreign Minister noted that Ukraine is strongly opposed to the dispatch of observers mission in the temporarily occupied territory of Crimea and Sevastopol.
“Any participation in the so-called observation of the electoral farce will be seen as an unfriendly act, and visits to AR Crimea and Sevastopol in violation of the legislation of Ukraine of order of entry in the temporarily occupied territory of Ukraine and departure from it will entail responsibility,” said the Minister.
Russia has occupied the Autonomous Republic of Crimea in 2014 year. The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine officially declared on 20 February 2014 beginning of the temporary occupation of Crimea and Sevastopol by Russia. Key international organizations, including the UN General Assembly has condemned Russia’s actions and called the annexation and occupation of Crimea illegal. Against Russia were imposed economic sanctions.
