After the German specialists, the alarm was sounded in France: Institute for nuclear safety IRSN, referring to measurements of the background scientists from several countries declared the radioactive plume over Europe, which could be formed due to the leakage of ruthenium-106 at the nuclear facility in Russia or Kazakhstan. This is stated in the press service of the IRSN.
According to the researchers, the cloud with higher levels of radionuclide that can be detected only in the reactors or other man-made objects, were seen in the end of September.
IRSN exclude that the consequences of the accident at the nuclear reactor in which it would be contamination of a whole “bouquet” of different radionuclides. According to experts, the leak occurred at either plant for reprocessing of nuclear fuel or the waste, or in the center of nuclear medicine.

As calculated in IRSN taking into account the prevailing winds and weather conditions in late September and early October, the nuclear incident happened somewhere in the South of the Ural mountains in Russia or perhaps Kazakhstan – between the ridge and the river.
The amount of released radionuclides is assessed as large – the equivalent of 100-300 terabecquerels, that is like 3-4 severity level on the international scale of nuclear incidents (0 to 7).
The Russian government said that “don’t know” about such incidents on its territory, says the press service of the Institute. Response from Kazakhstan IRSN has not yet received.
French scientists reassured us that the radioactive cloud did not cause harm to human health and the environment in Europe. They said that if such incident in France, the government would have evacuated the population within a radius of several kilometers from the scene of the accident.
On 12 October the Federal office for radiation protection (BFS) and the Ministry of environment of Germany said that recorded an increase in the level of the radioactive element ruthenium-106, whose source is located in the southern Urals in Russia.
