Today is the winter solstice, when daylight is the shortest of the year, and night is the longest in the Northern hemisphere (but not at the poles, where the polar night lasts six months).

Now the Sun practically does not change its height relative to the surface of the Earth, so the day is called the solstice.

Sunday-light day will gradually increase as the Sun will rise above the horizon.
