The President of the United States Donald trump gave the Minister of defence James Mattis, the authority to set the number of us troops in Afghanistan. This is with reference to a source in state administration according to Reuters.

The official on condition of anonymity, said that an immediate decision on the number of US soldiers in Afghanistan yet. Currently, the number of American troops in this country is about 8,400 people.

The Pentagon to comment on this information refused.

On Tuesday, June 13, Mattis, speaking at a meeting of the Senate Committee on armed forces, said that U.S.-backed Afghan forces can’t defeat the insurgents-the Taliban, despite continuing more than 15 years of war.

“Now in Afghanistan we are not winning, but we’ll fix it as soon as possible”, – said the head of the defense Ministry.

According to current and former American officials, the number of U.S. troops in the breakaway country can be increased by 3-5 thousand people. It is expected that this will be mainly trainers for the Afghan forces, and military pilots.
