Turkish authorities released early in recent weeks 31 482 prisoners. It is reported by the Turkish Minute.
Parole became possible thanks to a government decree published in mid-August.
“According to the decree of the government of Turkey had to free up space in prisons for thousands of people who were arrested on charges of involvement in failed coup attempt in the country”, – stated in the message.
The right to parole was only those who were convicted before July 1, 2016 for minor crimes for a period of two years or less. The decree does not apply to those convicted of murder, assault, rape or terrorism.
