The European Union in the next few years may not offer the countries participating in the Eastern partnership membership in the Alliance. The head of the EU delegation to Ukraine Hugh Mingarelli said during the debate on the Forum of associations in Kiev, reports European truth.
“Now the EU has no opportunity to offer a perspective of one partner country. Maybe in a few years, but now – no,” he said.
However, Mingarelli stressed that, despite this, the implementation of the Association Agreement is a topical issue for Ukraine.
“We all know this (the lack of willingness of the EU to the debate on the prospect – ed.), that is the reality. And now we, the European Union, you must convince partners to continue to implement the Association Agreement, based on this understanding”, he concluded.
On 29 June it was reported that the faction of the Left party in the German Parliament fears that the development of relations with countries in the framework of the Eastern partnership to prevent relations between Germany and Russia and will lead to escalation of tension.
In turn, Minister of foreign Affairs of Poland Witold Waszczykowski during a visit to Azerbaijan on 19 October said that Poland wants to resume the importance of the EU program Eastern partnership, which is aimed at rapprochement with former Soviet countries.
