Ukraine has saved 7.2 billion cubic meters of gas due to the commissioning of facilities for the use of biofuels, thermo homes and reduction of norms of consumption of gas. This was stated by the head of the Saee Serhiy Savchuk, reports UKRINFORM.

“Since 2014, saved 7.2 billion cubic meters of gas through the insulation, substitution and reduced consumption rates,” said Savchuk.

According to him, Ukraine needs to go through the creation of boiler-houses working on biological fuel, to use domestic equipment and domestic wood burning.

“From 2014, these boilers appeared around 1650 MW, but, as a rule, are small boilers with the capacity of 0,5-2 MW, since they are installed in hospitals, schools, kindergartens. This year, a law was passed that allowed to sell the heat of the gas at the rate which is tied to the price of gas. 10% discount (on heat from biofuel in comparison with the warmth of gas – ed.) allows the city budgets and people to save,” – said Savchuk.

“Wood waste is everywhere, all over Ukraine. The investor will look at examples of projects that already work and return of investment. If two or three examples of such boiler plants will survive for a year or two we will get a boom of such projects,” – said Savchuk.

He added that the legislative field is conducive to investment: a green tariff, bound to Euro, and possibility to conclude long-term contracts for the sale of electric energy.

“The only thing we need to monetize the subsidies. Let’s see how will work the new mechanism of subsidies that will work through the manufacturer of the heat,” said Savchuk.

Earlier it was reported that the Cabinet of Ministers adopted the decision on introduction in Ukraine monetization of subsidies from 1 January 2018.
