The U.S. permanent representative to the UN, Nikki Haley criticized in Russia, called for greater pressure on Moscow to end the war in Syria, reports Voice of America.
“Many of you said we need to put pressure on the Syrian regime, but in fact it is not: you need to put pressure on Russia,” said Haley.
“Now all the attention and pressure needs to be turned on Russia because she can stop it if you want it,” she said.
According to the US Ambassador to the UN, the continued support of Moscow emboldens the regime of Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad.
“Continuing to cover the Syrian regime, Russia allows him to block access of humanitarian aid to the people who need it. Russia continues to cover the leader who uses chemical weapons against its own people, continues to use the veto, and Assad will continue to do all these things, knowing that Russia will continue to cover for him,” said Haley.
“I will continue to encourage the Security Council to do something, regardless of whether Russia continue to veto because our voice needs to be heard,” she added.
9 APR Haley also said that while in Syria Assad is overthrown, until then it will be impossible to find a political solution to the conflict in Syria.
