Central intelligence Agency (CIA) sends more highly-qualified officers to Afghanistan to conduct joint Kabul intelligence operations to find and eliminate militants of the Islamist group the Taliban. It is reported by The New York Times, citing its sources.
It is reported that the new counter-terrorism strategy of President Donald trump’s covert operations against the Taliban to come to the fore. The CIA has redirected its focus from an open confrontation between the terrorist group al-Qaeda in the fight against Taliban militants.
It is also said that the CIA traditionally resisted an open campaign against the Taliban, the main militant group in Afghanistan, believing that it is a waste of time and money of the anti-terrorist Agency, which poses a risk to the officers.
