The United States called the Crimea occupied by the Russian Federation, and the “conviction” Deputy head of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatars Akhtem Chigos – another example of “constant harassment” in it. This is stated in the Twitter of the U.S. Embassy in Kiev.
“Baseless condemnation of Akhtem chigusa – another example of the constant harassment taking place in Russian-occupied Crimea”, – stated in the message.
September 11 occupiers of Crimea have Chilgoza eight years in prison.
The European Union has urged Russia to release Chiygoza and to drop charges against another Deputy head of the Mejlis Ilmi Umerov.
Chiygoz was abducted by invaders in the Crimea in January 2015. He was blamed for “organizing mass riots” on 26 February 2014, the day when Crimean Tatars and Pro-Ukrainian inhabitants of the Peninsula came out to protest against the seizure of Crimea by Russia.
