The third meeting of the representative of the US State Department on Ukraine with Kurt Volker, a Russian presidential aide Vladislav Surkov to end the war in the Donbas was a step backwards. This was told Walker in an interview with Left Bank.

“It was already the third meeting (in Belgrade November 13, – ed.). During the first two meetings I had the feeling that we are opening access to opportunities, Russia is exploring the idea of using peacekeeping forces. They really wanted to associate peacekeeping force with the formats that already exist – Minsk, Normandy, OSCE observers and so forth,” said Walker.

According to him, in the beginning I had the impression that there is openness for discussion of key parameters, including security in the Donbass, access to the border and the like.

“The last meeting was really a step backwards. Russia has returned to its original concept of using Security forces. So we agreed that we would take a break, think of each other’s positions, will consult, and will meet again somewhere in December,” – said the representative of the state Department.

Earlier yesterday, the spokesman said that the fighting in the Donbass will not end soon and most likely will continue through the year.
