In a recent decision of the US state Department to approve commercial sale Ukraine light weapons there is nothing unusual or new, when compared with similar practices of the past, including the pre-war period. This was at the briefing said the speaker of the Ministry Heather Nauert.

According to her, Ukraine for several years, we bought small quantities of weapons of this type – both before and after the Russian occupation of Crimea in 2014.

The foreign Ministry on 13 December notified the U.S. Congress of its decision to authorize the commercial supply of weapons to Kiev. In this case, said Nauert, the us government sells arms directly to the Ukrainian, and allow Kiev to make purchases from arms manufacturers in the United States.

“The U.S. government under the past two administrations approved of such export licence for Ukraine, so there’s nothing new,” she added.

The licence covers a specific list of arms in the categories of semi-automatic and automatic infantry weapons, which includes including the Barrett M107A1 rifle for snipers, combat shotguns, silencers, flame arresters, optics for military rifles, and more.

M107A1 – improved version of the large-caliber sniper rifles USA Barrett M82, production started in 2011.
