A Pro-Russian President of Moldova, Igor Dodon said that the army does not need the country. He said this in an interview with Nezavisimaya Gazeta.

“The army is not needed. Moldova – a neutral country, therefore it should not be the armed forces neither on the left nor on the right banks of the Dniester. Who do we fight? To unify the country there are two pre-conditions: neutrality, recognized by the international community,” he said.

Dodon believes that to gain independence or become the subject of the Russian Federation for PMR unrealistic. However, he said the right of self-determination of Transnistria “in case of loss of Moldova’s statehood”.

“Although I am sure that after the unification of the country in Moldova will never be prominately power. I think you can negotiate with Tiraspol. He has two scenarios: either to become part of Ukraine, or Moldova. I am sure that for Transnistria it is better to be part of the Republic of Moldova. To gain independence or become the subject of the Russian Federation for Transnistria impossible”, – said Igor Dodon.
