Total economic losses due to natural and man-made disasters in 2017 was about $306 billion this is evidenced by the Swiss reinsurance company Swiss Re.

Compared to the previous year, these losses increased by 63%.

The company noted that hurricane season in the US in 2017 became the most expensive since 2005

At the same time, human losses due to disasters has not changed significantly. In 2017 they have made more than 11 thousand people, about the same as in 2016.
