Fugitive ex-President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych withdrew from his lawyers and said he did not want to participate in the court, “the outcome is predetermined”. He said this on air of the Russian First channel.

“I don’t want to participate in a supposedly adversarial system, the outcome is pre-determined. I made the decision to withdraw from the process of its defenders. The qualification no doubt. But in a country destroyed by justice lawyers are powerless,” he said.

He also said that the requirement to participate in the court session via video conference he was allegedly denied and adopted laws on absentee conviction was called “a direct violation of the European Convention for the protection of human rights and fundamental freedoms”.

June 29, Yanukovych has refused to appear in court on the territory of the Russian Federation to participate in a videoconference in a meeting of the Obolonskiy district court of Kyiv on the case on charges of his treason. According to prosecutors read out the indictment, the former President is accused of complicity to the Russian authorities the annexation of Crimea and waging aggressive military operations on the territory of Ukraine.
